What is the Spirit Saying to the Church?

The Holy Spirit is visiting His people with power, but at the same time there is a crisis that is happening in our nation in regards to the stranglehold abortion has on this country and the sexual immorality of both heterosexuality and homosexuality, the question we at IHOP-KC are asking is “what is the Spirit saying to the Church?” We want to put our ears to the ground and really begin to seek the Lord for an answer.

It is time to encounter God and take action!

I just got an email from Lou Engle and Mike Bickle that was sent to all IHOP-KC staff and wanted to share it with you:

Dear friends,

We stand at a critical juncture in our nation’s history. It is time to encounter God and to take action. The Holy Spirit is visiting His people with power. At the same time, the powers of darkness are raging against the moral fabric of our nation. The light is getting brighter as the darkness gets darker.

Many of you will have heard of the spiritual awakening at our Bible school. On Wednesday, November 11, the Spirit fell on a class for more than 15 hours. The word spread quickly and over 2,000 people spontaneously gathered in the auditorium from all over Kansas City, as deliverance and physical healings continued to increase. We canceled our classes for the next week so that each one of our 1,000 students and interns could receive from the Spirit in an extended way.

We decided to meet nightly from 6:00pm to midnight because His manifest presence continues to increase. Visitors are pouring in from many places across America to partake of this spiritual awakening.

We will continue these evening meetings until our onething conference, December 28–31, 2009, when we are expecting 20,000 young adults to gather for worship, teaching, and to participate in the supernatural ministry of the Spirit.

Last year, over 16,000 young adults attended this conference. We are still hearing testimonies of lives that were changed. This year, we are expecting to receive even more from the Spirit. We believe that this will be a historic and important conference, and encourage you to attend.

The theme for onething’09 is “What is the Spirit saying to the Church?” Our team will proclaim what we believe the Spirit is prophetically speaking to the Church in this hour. We will also share practical ways in which we can “adopt” high schools and colleges across our nation as we envision young people to impact each sphere of society with works of justice and acts of compassion. At the conference, we will have extended ministry times to receive healing, renewal, and impartation from the Spirit. We believe that the Spirit will release His power at this conference, as evidenced by what He is currently doing in our evening meetings.

Mark Anderson, a senior international leader in YWAM who also works closely with Campus Crusade for Christ, will host forums for leaders to discuss how we can systematically evangelize entire cities and campuses in partnership with the houses of prayer in their area. Mark has remarkable insight that comes from his 30 years of successful ministry in evangelism. The Lord has given him some bold new strategies for this hour.

The crisis in our nation is real. The serpentine stranglehold of abortion continues to squeeze the life out of over 4,000 wombs daily. Sexual immorality, both heterosexual and homosexual, are reaching epic heights of perversity. The number of women and children being trafficked into the dark underbelly of the sex industry in our cities is growing at an alarming rate. Entire school systems are giving way to darkness. The sanctity of marriage is under siege, threatening to destroy the moral foundations of our nation.

We will also address the growing crisis that is emerging in many churches across America. A new wave of confusion is systematically seducing many young adults into deception. Sincere young people whose hearts were once ablaze for Jesus are being allured into compromise on foundational biblical truths and practices, while at the same time they are increasing in works of compassion and justice. No amount of increased ministry activity can “balance out” their profound spiritual compromises. In the name of tolerance, they are settling for a humanistic and “politically correct” theology that trivializes the glory of Jesus. Many young adult ministries are falling prey to this as they are seeking “relevance” that dulls the razor’s edge of truth for the sake of man’s approval. It is not enough to mention Jesus’ name if they deny foundational truths about Him. Our works of justice must flow from deep allegiance to Jesus and the Scripture.

Our nation has never stood on such a precarious footing as today. The onslaught of spiritual darkness is increasing in our classrooms, boardrooms, courtrooms, and bedrooms. We must confront the confusion that is pouring forth from many pulpits as well as from the halls of Washington. It is time to draw a line in the sand. We must hear what the Spirit is saying and we must act on it. The Spirit will confirm the truth with demonstrations of power.

It is darkest before the dawn. Our hearts are full of faith. We know another historic “Great Awakening” is soon to sweep across our nation. We look with confidence to God’s promise: “In the last days . . . I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh (Acts 2:17-21). All nations will receive the witness of kingdom with power (Mt. 24:14; Rev. 7:9). What a privilege to live in this awesome hour of history.

At this very hour, Jesus is raising up young adults who are being mobilized to cry out in night and day prayer, win the lost, heal the sick, and do works of compassion and justice as they impact the very fabric of our society.

Please join us in Kansas City from December 28–31. The onething’09 conference is FREE. You can register at http://IHOP.org

With passion for Jesus,

Mike Bickle and Lou Engle

4 Scriptural Reasons Why Jesus CANNOT Return At Any Second

1. The Gospel Must Be Preached to All Nations (Mt. 24:14; Mk. 13:10)

Jesus said to His disciples that before the end would come, the gospel would be preached to all nations. Missionary organizations have determined that this could be accomplished somewhere around 2020 or so. But this is one of the requirements that must be fulfilled before the return of Jesus to the earth.

2. The “falling away” has not yet happened. (2 Thes. 2:3; Mt. 24:9-13; 2 Pet. 3:17; Heb 6:4-6: Luke 8:11-15)

Paul says in 2 Thes. 2:11-12 that people are condemned because one, they do not love the truth; and two, they take pleasure in unrighteousness. Paul also tells Timothy that there will be those who depart from the faith because they “gave heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons” (1 Tim. 4:1; 2 Tim. 4:3).

The believers that do NOT fall away is described in Rev. 12:11 in that they will overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, adn the fact that they did not love their lives to the death.

3. The “Abomination of Desolation” has not happened yet. (Mt. 24:15-31; Mk. 13:14-27; 2 Thes. 2:3; Rev 13:12-18; Dan 11:31-32)

The final 3 and a half years of the tribulation is marked by an event called the “Abomination of Desolation.” This occurs when the Antichrist stands in the Jerusalem temple and declares himself to be God by setting up an idol in the temple and then seeking to force all who are on earth to worship him. The Antichrist’s statue or image will be the greatest abomination to God in history, because the Antichrist will demand to be worshiped as God and many will fully respond to this demand.

4. The “last trumpet” must be preceded by 6 other trumpets (1 Cor. 15:52; 1 Thes. 4:16-18; Rev. 8-9; Rev 11:15-19)

In the “Revelation of Jesus Christ” (the book of Revelation) it is revealed to us that there are 7 trumpets that will sound that will release judgments on the earth (The 7 Trumpets are the 3rd of 5 Chronological Sections in chapters 6-22 of Revelation). The last trumpet in Rev. 11:15-19 speaks about the kingdoms of the world becoming the kingdoms of God (Jesus). Most other places in scripture (1 Cor. 15:52; 1 Thes. 4:16-18… Matthew 24; Mark 13) talk about the last trumpet or the trumpet of God being sounded just before Jesus returns to earth.

The event that happen in the first 6 trumpets are so catastrophic and so immense and will take time as they happen in succession. Also, the 5th trumpet takes place over at least 5 months (Rev. 9:5).

These judgments take place to rid the earth of the evil regime of the Antichrist, but also to awaken people who still haven’t made a decision for Christ to turn to Him and not against Him. You definitely want to be on the side of the one who is releasing the Seals, Trumpets and Bowl Judgments.

Revelation: 7 Main Symbols

Inside of the “Angelic Explanations” or (parenthetical sections), we find these 7 main symbols. When we look to understand the book of Revelation and to interpret its meaning, we should interpret Revelation in the plain sense reading of the text (the literal interpretation). It’s numbers are literal unless the Scripture specifically indicates that they are symbolic.

Here are the 7 Symbols and their meanings.

  1. The dragon: is always symbolic of Satan (Rev. 12:3, 4, 7, 9, 13, 16, 17; 13:2, 4; 16:13; 20:2).
  2. The first Beast: is symbolic of the Antichrist (Rev. 13; 14:9-11; 17:3-17; 19:19-21; 20:4, 10).
  3. Another Beast: is symbolic of the False Prophet who is only called, “another Beast” one time (Rev. 13:11).
  4. The 7 heads: are 7 empires from history that persecuted Israel (Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, revived Roman Empire of Dan. 2:41-42; 7:7, 20, 24; Rev. 12:3; 13:1; 17:3-16).
  5. The 10 horns: speak of a future 10-nation confederation of ten kings (Rev. 12:3; 13:1; 17:3, 7, 12-14, 16-18).
  6. The Harlot Babylon: will be established in the literal re-built city of Babylon on the Euphrates River in Iraq as a worldwide demonic religious and economic center (Rev. 17-18; Jer. 50-51).
  7. The Woman with the Mail-child (Jesus): the woman is the faithful remnant of Israel through history (Rev. 12:1-5). Satan wars with her offspring who are Gentile believers (Rev. 12:17).

True Peace

Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.”

Jesus was the ultimate peacemaker. Colossians 1:16b-17 says “All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” Then in verse 20 Paul goes on to say “and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”

Defining a Peacemaker
A peacemaker is one who brings reconciliation to all things that are out of God’s will. This was the very reason God took on flesh and became a man. Jesus became the mediator in order to reconcile all things to Himself through the perfect blood of the cross. This is true peace.

What Peace Are We Asking For?
The “peace” in Col. 1:20 in the Greek (G1517) is different than the “peace” in Mt. 10:34 (G1515) where Jesus says “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.” The definition of the word “peace” (G1515) that Jesus did NOT come to bring was “a oneness, quietness, rest or prosperity.”  Jesus came to make peace (G1517) – reconciliation of all things into God’s will. And this is what He is calling us to in the Sermon on the Mount… to be “PeaceMakers”. We should not be seekers of peace for the sake of peace. Non war time peace or prosperity peace or non-conflicts are not what we are to be seeking and pursuing, but a peace that is only found when things are reconciled to God by Jesus through the blood of the cross.

Apart from this reality, this peace… there can be no rest, quietness or oneness as long as things are not in alignment with the will of God. Every other sense of peace is a false peace and really no peace at all.

Can There Be Peace Without Reconciliation to God?
This has never been more a reality than when as a nation we voted in the most radical pro-abortion candidate in American history. Lou Engle brought a very alarming word to the Body of Christ Sunday when he said that many within the Church Leadership across America are calling for peace.

If by peace, they are calling for a radical pursuit of reconciling Barack Obama’s positions INTO the will of God; specifically on the issue of Abortion as well as every other position on issues he holds, then this is the peace we need. However, apart from this peace… there can be no peace. Unless this reconciliation happens and wrong things are made right, the next 4 years will be extremely terrible for human beings yet to be born and inside their mother’s womb.

Just as my friend Wes Martin said in his article on “Peace when there is no peace”, the Church Leadership of America MUST lead us the next 4 years in constant ‘Solemn Assemblies’ of prayer. When a moral crisis of this magnitude hits a nation this is the only Biblical Prescription.

Revelation: 5 Chronological & 5 Angelic Explanations

Revelation: 5 Chronological & 5 Angelic Explanations

In the last article in this series I laid out the 4 Part Overview of the Book of Revelation. Part 4 is the story line of the book unfolding here on earth. It spans from chapter 6 to 21, so putting it into one part of a 4-part overview doesn’t help much unless we unpack it. So that is where this next part comes in.

5 Chronological Sections

As the story line unfolds, there are 5 sections of the book that happen in chronological order, we call these the 5 Chronological Sections… very clever, I know. These 5 sections give the details, as they happen in succession, in which God’s judgment on the Antichrist’s empire unfolds on earth.

5 Angelic Explanations

During the process of unveiling the story as it happens in order, from one thing to the next, there is a pause in the story line. There is a pause after each of the 5 Chronological Sections. This pause allows for further explanation to give details and insight into what happens to God’s people. These sections answer some of the tough questions such as “Why is God’s wrath so severe?” and “What will happen to the saints?”

Chronological Section #1: Seal Judgments (Rev. 6:1-17)
- Angelic Explanation #1: Protection from judgments and falling away (Rev. 7:1-17)
Chronological Section #2: Trumpet Judgments against Antichrist (Rev. 8:1-9:21)
- Angelic Explanation #2: Direction by increase of prophetic ministry (Rev. 10:1-11:13)
Chronological Section #3: 2nd Coming Procession (Rev. 11:15-19)
- Angelic Explanation #3: Confrontation against saints by Antichrist (Rev. 12:1-14:20)
Chronological Section #4: Bowl Judgments (Rev. 15:1-16:21)
- Angelic Explanation #4: Seduction by Bablyon’s evil religion (Rev. 17:1-19:10)
Chronological Section #5: Triumphal Entry (Rev. 19:11-21:8)
- Angelic Explanation #5: Restoration of all things (Rev. 21:9-22:5)

In the next article in this series I’ll go over the 7 Primary Symbols that occur in the Angelic Explanations.

Revelation: The Basics

Here it is in its most basic form. It’s not difficult, and it’s not my opinion mixed in with interpretations, it is just a plain sense reading of the book of revelation and breaking it down into 4 parts.

4 Part Overview of the Book of Revelation:

  1. John’s Calling (Chpt. 1)
  2. 7 Letters (Chpts. 2, 3)
  3. Jesus Takes the Scroll (Chpts. 4, 5)
  4. Jesus’ Battle Plan (Chpts. 6 – 21)

Simple. It is of course missing the details, but its a great way to approach the book.

So now that we’ve figured out that it isn’t so difficult to wrap our minds around, let’s just look at these 4 sections  and break it down a little further.

Part 1: John’s Calling to prophecy about the end times (Chpt. 1): In chapter 1 John is given a commission to prophesy in writing the things he has seen through the lens of Jesus’ majesty.

Part 2: Jesus gives 7 Letters (Chpts. 2, 3): In chapters 2 and 3 Jesus is speaking throughout the 2 chapters and giving the 7 churches exhortations to be overcomers.

Part 3: Jesus Takes the Scroll (Chpts. 4, 5): In chapters 4 and 5 Jesus takes the scroll and given His mandate to take over the earth. In these chapters we also get a glimpse of the throne room of heaven.

Part 4: Jesus’ Battle Plan (Chpts. 6 – 21): In these chapters we are taken through the story line of Jesus’ actions to cleanse the earth (Great Tribulation). In these passages there are 2 main literary sections:

  1. 5 Chronological Sections (the chronological order in which God’s judgments unfold on earth)
  2. 5 Angelic Explanations (the story line is put on “pause” to answer important questions)
I’ll stop here and start with the 5 Chronological sections and 5 Angelic Explanationsin the next post.
I hope this gives you motivation to jump into the book. In this book Jesus is giving us understanding of what He is doing and why He is doing it. This is something that will affect us, our family and our friends. We must have confidence that we can understand this book. Like I said in this article, it was written to be understood by all.

The Book of Revelation is for Everyone

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants – things which must shortly take place.” (Rev. 1:1)

“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.” (Rev. 1:3)

“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him.” (Rev. 1:7)

I’m not a super theologian. I also haven’t yet heard the audible voice of God. Yet I know that the book of Revelation is meant to be read and meant to be understood. It’s the only book in the Bible that has both a blessing for those that read, hear and keep the words of this book, and a curse for those who add to it or take away from it.

This book is one of those in the Bible that many avoid. People read the good parts of course; Many times when they start to read the Bible in any regular fashion most want to see what happens in the end. They see that we win and many times that’s it. That’s good enough for them. They don’t hear about it too often from the pulpit, and they aren’t encouraged to study it.

If however, they decide to push a little farther, they then come upon the seals, trumpets, and bowls, the beast with 7 heads with 10 horns, and some woman and a dragon who wants to kill her offspring.  Usually, because of the symbols, people think they can’t really understand the symbols and start to avoid those parts because they think they don’t apply to their life today.

So many say to themselves (even if they aren’t aware of it) “I’ll take the good stuff and not worry about the stuff I don’t get” and they leave it at that.

However, this is a dangerous place to be. From this place people may begin to take scripture out of context and misunderstand the very truths Jesus wanted us to know. Also a very deep motivation for living for the age to come lies dormant and people fail to develop vision to live for more than this life, believing that either “we won’t be here” or “it will all pan out in the end”.

I’ve heard people say “It’s too difficult to understand” or “it’s not meant for general reading.”

All of the Bible, including the book of Revelation, was meant for everyone to read and understand. Sure, you may not get it on the first go-around, but go back a 2nd time and a 3rd (The Bible isn’t meant to be read once). Also, throughout history the majority of the people in the world have been uneducated peasants. This book, as well as every other book in the Bible, was meant to be understood in its plain sense reading of the text as read by an average reader. It is NOT meant for only the elite, PHD, highly intelligent, super theologians of the world and then explained to the rest of us.

However, it does help having a road map of the book going into it. It’s not necessary, but makes the book of Revelation so easy to understand that a 6 year old can get it. So in the next few posts I am going to be laying out a road map of the book of Revelation. It’s pretty basic, but makes for a great guide in your journey through the book.
