How to Provoke Prayer

Teen PrayerIn a country where 1 out of 10 high schools has a club for gay and gay-friendly kids and where sexual laxity in our society among teenagers has become a social norm, there are forerunners who are standing up for purity, wholeheartedness, and fighting to maintain a life in God.

Zealous Teenagers In YOUR City
In the high schools in YOUR city there are teenagers who are in love with Jesus and want to see revival break out in their schools. They want to see kids saved and set free from addictions and are willing to pay the price to see that happen. These ones who have a seemingly unlimited amount of zeal and strength and a hunger for more like you’ve never seen are in YOUR church and cleaning out YOUR refrigerator.

They are the same ones that you may find wasting time vegging out in front of the video games, going to the movies every week and not seeming to have a care in the world. They are right in front of YOU, but just need someone who will lead the way; to show them an example; to get involved.

I’ve seen teenagers this week, desperate for Jesus, desperate for Him to make Himself known to them and to their friends. They are passionate about God, so much so that they are willing to spend a month in training to learn how to start prayer meetings so that they can see their campus won for Christ. These teens have come to the realization that if they want to see change happen on their campus, they are going to have to pray. And only through persistent prayer are we going to see results.

Teenagers are longing to be a light in the darkness, longing to be set apart and to call others to the same.

Pray For and Speak Into Their Lives
I want to challenge you to find 1 or 2 teens around you and encourage them in their life in God.

  1. Encourage them in fasting, praying, having a life in the word.
  2. Pray for the teens that you know. Pray for:
    1. Strength in their inner man (Eph. 3:17), and that God would give them grace to keep them from stumbling.
    2. Pray that God would give them revelation through visions, dreams and that He would open up the word to them.
  3. Talk to them about how they can start a prayer meeting in their high school or junior high.
  4. Start a Bible Study or Prayer Meeting with teens (or all meet at a local IHOP)
  5. Lead by example

If you are a teen in high school and are reading this. Start a prayer meeting in your school. Find others in your school who have a heart to see your school changed and get together and pray weekly.

How To Lead A Prayer Meeting
The model we use for creating enjoyable prayer meetings is extremely simple and can be done with a singer and an acoustic guitar. Here is the model in a nutshell.

  1. Start with a worship song
  2. Sing Spontaneously your own love song to God
  3. Speak your prayers / Sing your prayers
  4. Sing a chorus/prayer and sing it over and over again, so that everyone in the prayer meeting can sing prayer together.

Then repeat.
