The Mystery of God

Making our lives work right is a pain sometimes. Circumstances seem to get in the way and throw us off track. We make plans and life seems to come in like a tornado and we end up on a course we didn’t plan for. We never do plan for tornados or for unforeseen circumstances, that is why they are called “unforeseen”. We cannot control when things happen to us, but we can control how we respond; and in this lies the answer.

John 17:3 - ‘And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.’

In this passage Jesus is speaking to God the Father and we are hearing this because of God the Holy Spirit. So we are listening in on the holy dialog between God and God by the power of God. If we look at this chapter of John 17:1-26 it is broken up into 3 sections.

  1. Verses 1-5: Jesus is reflecting on His work before the Father
  2. Verses 6-19: Jesus is talking about His disciples and His family
  3. Verses 19-26: Jesus is talking about His people as a whole

So in this portion of Scripture we are really listening in on Jesus meditating on Jesus in order to be strengthened as a man in order to go to the cross. He had to meditate on His glory and on how much the Father loved Him. In this we have the pattern that Jesus wants us to go through to make our lives work right. How much more do we need to meditate on the glory of God and on the love of Christ in order to make our lives function properly?

Christianity begins with a person and ends with a person. It’s a divine encounter with a living man who happens to be God. He is our hope. We really need to get a revelation of God or we will not pray. Really we won’t. We will whimper and beg… and maybe plead; but we won’t pray.

The same way that the Father is in Him and He is in the Father and how He relates to the Father, is the same way He wants us to be in and relating to the Father.

I’ll leave you with a mystery chew on…

We are perfect AND He is going to make us holy (Heb. 10:14). The mystery of God.
