Prayer Room
While driving the shuttles for the last conference, there seemed to be one thing that stood out to me. Among all the Korean being spoken to each other on the shuttles, it seems that the phrase “prayer room” is not in the Korean language.

Interesting!! So they talk to each other in Korean and then interject with the English word “prayer room”… cool. In linguistics, this is called code switching. It may be that Korean doesn’t have a word for “prayer room” specifically (they may be able to say the “room in which you pray”) but it may also mean that this phrase has become like a trademark to them, using the English term “prayer room” when they are referring specifically to the IHOP prayer room (”O.K.” is understood throughout the world even when appropriate equivalents to this phrase exists in the world’s languages).
