Interview with Shawn Blanc - Part 2

Filed under: Blogging, Famous Interviews, IHOP, Musician's Corner

Today I am continuing my interview with Shawn Blanc of The Fight Spot. He is an intercessory missionary at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, plays drums on Justin Rizzo’s worship team, and tours ’round the country with the Onething team as their tech/sound/live-blogger/guru.

What’s the dumbest/funniest experience you’ve ever had while drumming?

One time I was playing “did you feel the mountains tremble”. Going into the chorus I did this huge, over the top drum fill and then came out of it and went into 6/4 because the words to the chorus were throwing me off. The sound guy comes into my booth and says, “Can you hear o.k.?” (thinking that I was having trouble hearing the worship leader). I responded, “yeah. Maybe I just suck.”

What was your favorite part of Onething KC?

10,000 young people praying and fasting. Praise God!

What teaching at IHOP has impacted you the most?

Song of Solomon. God likes me durring my journey.

What is your favorite worship song right now?

I don’t have a favorite at the moment. I have been loving the times of spontaneous singing in-between the worship songs though.

What are you looking forward to doing most in 2007?

The onething conference in Castle Rock, Colorado. It’s at my home church!

For people trying to set short term goals (3-6 months) and trying to live a focused life, what advice would you give? And what are some of your short term goals?

Good question. If you have a short-term goal or a long-term goal the success of it is the same. You have to do something to make it happen. Without practical application your goals will never materialize. Try to spend time every day (or week, or whatever) towards your goal. Say your goal is to be a man or woman of the Word. If you’re not actually pray-reading the Bible every day then you will never accomplish that goal.

As a musician at ihop, what is the hardest thing personally/spiritually that you deal with?

For a long time it was being critical towards other drummers. Now it’s my poor joints. Drumming 16 hours a week for 6 years has it’s toll.

Musical influences?

Coldplay, DMB, Audra Lynn,

If you could preach one sermon, what would the topic be and what would be the main point?

Right now it’s the one I’ve been preaching for a while: “5 Lifestyle practices for maturity in God”. This message really rocked me and continues to help me stay focused on God. I have notes and MP3 for free download at thefightspot.com.
