Interview with Shawn Blanc - Part 1
Filed under: Blogging, Famous Interviews, IHOP, Musician's Corner
Today I have the pleasure of posting the first part of an email interview that I conducted with Shawn Blanc from one of my favorite blogs The Fight Spot. He is an intercessory missionary at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, plays drums on Justin Rizzo’s worship team, and tours ’round the country with the Onething team as their tech/sound/live-blogger/guru.
I’ve divided the interview into two parts because of the whole too much of a good thing… or maybe its because I asked lots of questions and breaking it up means I get 2 posts out of it. Whatever the case, I hope you enjoy it.
What are the 2 most important things in your life?
The Lord and Family. I love them both very much.
You have many readers at FTSA and I believe its because of the great insight and killer content you provide new each day. What is the #1 reason you blog?
FTSA started out as a journal-esque blog but I have turned it into a pastoral / discipleship site. I want it to be a place for people to learn simple ideas to help them in their walk with God. The kind of things that after you read it you say “Gosh. Why didn’t someone tell me that before?”If you could recommend one book for us what would it be?
Tozer: Knowledge of the Holy. That book is outstanding.
What’s the coolest thing about living in KC?
Other than night and day prayer?… cheap houses.
What was the change like for you when you first started out as intercessory missionary at ihop?
The biggest change for me was that I was finally in a community of people pursuing holiness. It was an excellent transition. One thing I’m still not used to is all the humidity in KC. I’m from Colorado where it’s nice and dry in the summer.
What’s the average amount of sleep you get each night?
6-7 hours.
What is your favorite date spot with Anna?
Houstons. It’s a fancy restaurant. We split this dish called the ‘evil jungle thai noodle steak salad’ and a baked potato. We go there every couple of months.

Shawn: I find it interesting that you think it’s humid in KC. I wonder if you’re correct or if it’s just humid compared to Colorado. I tend to think that the humidity in KC can’t possibly be as bad as here in Florida. Please, please, please let me be right.
I can’t wait to be surrounded by so many people pursuing the same thing. How challenging!

@ Steph: I don’t know if it’s more humid than Florida. It’s probably the same. I think I read somewhere that it’s usually 90-100% humidity during the summer. Can you get more than 100%?

Interesting that the humility issue stood out to me also. O’ I mean Humidity. I have been to Florida and believe me, KC’rs have no idea. (Well sort of an idea) Try Louisianna!! Now that’s humidity. I think it has to do with the elevation and how much moisture the air can hold. (Doesen’t this Blog have spell check?)

On the humidity issue: A friend of mine once compared getting off of a plane at the Tallahassee airport to being smothered by a warm, wet blanket. That thought really grosses me out, although I suppose that was the point.

Well, I think I will choose to remain in denial that KC even has humidity until the day I move there. Denial is healthy…. right?
