Extravagant Searching for Divine Treasures
Filed under: Christianity, Knowledge of God
“If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures…†(Prov. 2:4)
No Matter The Cost
We must pay any price in our search for the knowledge of God. This is a journey, a quest, in finding the treasure daily. The light is not ONLY at the end of the tunnel, the treasure is not ONLY at the end of the rainbow… There is light here now if we search for it, there are treasures to be found now along the way if we pay the price to search for it.
- “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.†(Matt. 13:44-46)
If we can live without more of God, then we can go without more of God. We must spend long hours searching on this journey to know God. Many people attend higher education for 8-10 years laboring for wisdom to excel in their occupation. Perseverance is considered normal to any who seek to excel.
This is not a sprint, it is a marathon, a journey and we must sell out completely, tearing off things that hinder along the way. Are your dreams just that… YOUR dreams? We must give him even our dreams and things that are so very dear to us. He knows what is best for us and we must trust him.
Regular Fasting is Necessary
We need to feel our hunger and thirst for God. But if we are so full and stuffed on the “good†and not so good things of this world, then how can we know that we are even hungry for God. We must make a commitment to fast regularly. Fasting does not earn God’s favor, rather it enlarges our capacity to freely receive from God as it leads to our heart becoming tenderized.
And we must do it when no one is looking. We must fast, and fast hard, and not go around telling people about it. I know its hard not to say something, I’ve fasted and told other people because it feels good when other people know you are seeking hard after God. But thats just it, Jesus says when you fast and pray before men so that they will see and acknowledge you, in that you have your reward. But when you do it in secret, God sees in secret and rewards you openly.
- “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.â€
The Promise
The knowledge of God is it. This is what its all about… knowing God. That is why we were created, that is why we are so relational as humans (being made in His image), its why we evangelize. The knowledge of God is why we are here and where everything is headed. And the promise is if we do these things we will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. Let’s start searching.
- “Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.†(Prov 2:5)

“We must do it when no one is looking†- This reflects the place I’m currently at and I believe it is a place where you come face to face with the reality within your heart. Do we abandon it all and seek God for a pat on the back from our fellow brothers and sisters or do we do it because we are honestly desperate for him. What will I see when I look into the mirror?
