Setting Goals based on Eternity

AimSo tomorrow morning after spending some time praying and reading, I’m going to start a 21-day “write down the tasks that need to be done today” and then have that with me so that I can check each one off as I complete them. I read somewhere that achieving goals, even small ones, helps motivate you to be productive b/c of the sense of accomplishment. Not sure if thats true, but I’m going to try to accomplish my life vision, one day at a time, starting with tomorrow. In an effort to go deeper into the heart of having a focused life I’m going to try to expound on what I think should be at the forefront of goal setting. One of the main verses that comes to mind on this subject is Matt 13:22-23 “22 Now he who received seed
among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world
and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes
unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

In our vision and goals for our life, we want to be great. God has even given us the desire to be great, but we have to be great the way Jesus teaches. There are 2 ways or paths to greatness.

  1. The way of Humility
  2. The way of Self-Exaltation

Our vision and our goals should be with this in mind. The sermon on the mount lifestyle should of course be at the center of how set our goals and what is important. Being a servant, having a heart of meekness and humility, love, prayer, fasting, giving. Living for eternity. When we stand before God and all of the treasures and things we have built on this earth fade away, there is only one gift we can give to honor the King of Kings… its a heart full of love pounding for him. We must be storing treasures that are not of this world, that will not fade away. In setting our goals we must have goals specifically centered around eternity.

I think my next post may be on how well the task list worked, and if I was able to complete my objectives. (I know to-do lists aren’t that big woopti-do, but its the whole “doing it in the morning, planning out my day” thing I’m trying).

Give me your thoughts!!!
